I'll second the suggestion to go with VM. If you must use windows It's be most secure way to Go.

Because over the last several years there has been a lot of miss information about Init systems, I found that Jesse Smith's explanation of the various system in this week's distrowatch question and answer very good.

I tend to think that it is software related as he says it works with windows. So try what @osprey has said first.

Which Distro are you using?

We need a bit more info on the wifi card. Make, Model, chipset. Also make sure secure boot is turned off if you machine has that.
